Through the 2004 holiday season, the wildly popular Introduction to Macintosh Apple workshop will be extended to 2 hours, running from 8-10 am on Saturday mornings (before the store officially opens).

Rose Lynn has also started the all-new Beginners North SIG, which meets at 10 am, on the 2nd Sunday of each month. Beginners and seasoned Apple users alike are invited to participate.

One of my jobs at the Apple store in Aventura is to lead the Introduction to Macintosh workshop on Saturday mornings at 9 AM. My first one was a great success. We had two old customers and two new customers in the class, and all felt that the group was very worthwhile.

For my second workshop, we announced it at our GCMac general membership meeting and Marian put it on our web site. This time we had two GCMac members, one potential customer and one from the previous week.

My third workshop was the largest yet. We had to bring some chairs from the back to accommodate everyone. The same two GCMac members were there, and I think everyone in attendance felt somewhat enlightened.

As of August, we have from 5 to 9 in our group every week and have put smiles an many faces. So, the group grows and I learn more every time I present. I hope to continue every Saturday for a while.

I am somewhat limited on the script and presentation as it is designed by Apple but certainly everything the group learns is beneficial. I have asked the management to allow me to do a Beginners North SIG at the store, and we hope that may happen in the future. That class would allow some software learning and project work so I am hoping we will be able to do it. In the meantime, we continue to look for a North venue. Stay tuned!

There are lots of workshops and presentations at the area Apple Stores every day of the week. You can subscribe to store calendars via iCal.
