Gold Coast Mac, and its fellow user group, the South Florida Final Cut Pro User Group, joined forces to present the In House Film Festival, their first ever movie contest. The contest, open to all filmmakers, was the two user groups' first organized event to connect Mac-using amateur filmmakers with the pro filmmaking community.
The contest requirements were fairly basic. The entry had to be: made on a Mac, run 5 minutes or less, and be edited using either iMovie, Final Cut Pro or Express.
SoFla FCP group leader Orlando Luna was interviewed by the The Mug Center about this movie contest and our user groups. You can find the interview online in The User Group Report Archives or you can download the MP3.
June 1 was the deadline for submitting entries, and the first screening was held on Gallery Night, June 4th at Axis iLab in Coral Gables. All entries were sent for judging by a select group of professionals in the indy film community in South Florida.
The winners of the Professional category were announced and screened at the June meeting of the South Florida Final Cut Pro User Group. The winners of the Amateur category were announced and screened at the June meeting of Gold Coast Mac.
All winners were notified by email, and the winning entries are posted on the festival web site.
Contest sponsors included: Digital Juice, Contour Design, CMP Books, Final Draft, Axis iLab and Luna Studio. Prizes awarded include stock footage, software, hardware, and books.
Thanks to all who have participated in this contest!
