Gold Coast Mac came away a winner in the the Third Annual Jerry Awards for User Group Community Service Projects, announced at the Annual APCUG User Group Summit meeting at Fall Comdex 2000.
Fifteen User Group projects from around the world were submitted for the award, and GCMac won one of three Second Place awards, which carry a cash prize of $750. A single award of $1000 was also granted, and 8 $200 awards for Honorable Mention.
GCMac won for its ongoing community outreach and education programs, including its ongoing effort to place computers with needy community organizations.
These awards are named for APCUG founder Jerry Schneider, a strong supporter of user group outreach programs. The purpose of the Jerry Awards is to recognize and reward these projects and to encourage new and expanded involvement.
This is the first community service award won by GCMac in its 16 year history. The GCMac Board will now decide how best to use the award winnings to continue our community programs.
