| This short film shows what happens "On The Road" when Gold Coast Mac takes to the MacBus. |
Gold Coast Mac has made a name for itself in a lot of ways, but possibly one of the most unique aspects of our group is the way we get around to User Group events.
Some people drive. Some fly. We take the bus...the MacBus.
The MacBus is a Monaco Coach, built on a full size bus frame to be a home on wheels, complete with marble floors, a full tub and shower, washer and dryer, and a kitchen...after all, this bus does not handle drive-through's well!
Owned by Gold Coast Mac member Richard Lynn, who makes it available for GCMac functions, the MacBus holds 8-10 people in style. Members pay their share of the cost of operating the bus from their own pocket. GCMac funds are not used.
While the bus is a great way to travel, it also serves other purposes. By getting our team to a location as a group, it allows us to work, plan, and build our strengths as a team. It serves as a home base while at an event, and it serves as a unique promotional vehicle. Decorated with specially made Gold Coast Mac banners and Apple logo materials donated by Apple's User Group Program, the MacBus promotes our organization and our support of Macintosh at the events we attend.
It's a tremendous tool... and evidence of the creativity... and generosity... of our members. This video was produced as a demonstration for the FACUG Spring Conference 2002.
The movie was produced and edited by Dave Game, videotaped using a Panasonic DV910 digital camera, edited completely in iMovie, with additional graphics produced in Adobe Photoshop 6. The video was converted to QuickTime using iMovie's export features, and then compressed using CleanerEZ. It was edited on a Powerbook 550 and mastered to DVD for public exhibition.
