Gold Coast Mac has ended another season of turning beer into benefits at the Orange Bowl, with a stellar final game which will net almost $800 dollars in commission and tips for GCMac programs.
In a sold-out evening soiree with one of the largest regular season home-game attendances in Canes history, the Canes blew out the hated Huskies, and the fans blew out their wallets. The GCMac beer stand did over $6400 in sales, non-stop from the time the gates opened. In addition, to prove that we don't need glamour girls like Rose Lynn and Sally Carlon at the counter to get big tips, VP Esver Camacho and President Dave Game managed to part $120 from the big spenders, and Dave not only got a $10 tip (must have been on the basis of personality, not looks!) but a rose from one of the customers!
Thanks for Sandy Miot, Esver, and John Hopkin for forming our crew, for VP Jan Barkan serving as stand manager, and his lovely wife JoAnn for pitching in to help with setup, teardown, and schlepping tons of beer and hundreds of sodas! GCMac can't do it without 'em, especially for a re-scheduled game on a holiday weekend!
When added to the total take from the other OB games this season, your OB Volunteers will have raised nearly $2000 in commission and tips for the GCMac treasury, to benefit members and GCMac programs.
A few special thanks are in order: First, to John Hopkins for winning the Iron Man award, and making it to every single game this season. John is a tireless worker who responds whenever we need him, and his help has been invaluable. Second, a special thanks to the spouses who pitched in this year...what a great help, and what a great way to find time to spend with your significant other! Third, a big round of applause for stand managers Guiseppe DiFranco and Jan Barkan, who corralled volunteers, handled the money, and generally made everything work. Fourth, a hearty handshake to the members of the GCMac board. We had about than 2/3 of the already busy board volunteer to work at least one game, an outstanding participation rate, not to mention the invaluable help of committed members. For those of who didn't make it, you missed some fun times, but theres always next year!
And last, but never least, a standing ovation to Richard Lynn, who supports our efforts in so many ways, including making it possible for us to take part in this outstanding fundraising program. In addition to giving us a prime booth which consistently exceeds the traffic at other, similar booths, Richard this year even arranged for a VIP parking pass for the core stand crew, an unexpected luxury which proved to be a huge convenience. Other user groups envy our ability to tap into this revenue, and we see the results every time we do a presentation on our laptop, or watch a demo on our new big screen projector. And now, as we consider buying a new tiBook to allow for OSX presentations in 2002, we have Richard and the help of our able volunteers to thank for our ability to improve!
